The Endogenous Healing Process: Conceptual Analysis

Sharon L. Scandrett-Hibdon, Ph. D., R. N.

Mildred I. Freel, M.S., R. N.

The art of nursing has long utilized the self in supporting the process of healing without systematic study of that self involvement. This article explores the natural healing process from a holistic perspective. Five recurring elements of self involvement are identified which appear to be aspects of the natural healing process. An illustration is presented which demonstrates these elements. Further study of the healing process and its elements is suggested.
